Obituary of Catherine Fairweather

FAIRWEATHER, Catherine A. (nee Taranto), age 92, died peacefully Monday, November 8, 2010 at Lakeland Health Care Center, Haskell, NJ. Born in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, she resided most of her adult life in Waldwick, NJ before moving to Whiting, NJ in 1991, Oakland, NJ in 2003 and then to Haskell in 2009. Catherine was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a former member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church, Oakland, St. Luke's RC Church, Ho Ho Kus, where she had been a member of the Rosary Society, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton RC Church, Whiting, also where she had been a member of the Rosary Society and had volunteered in the church library. She also served as a volunteer at Valley Hospital's Kurth Cottage. Catherine had a great love of life and enjoyed meeting people, especially her dear long time friends, the "Golden Girls" of Waldwick, NJ whom she befriended just after World War II. She always had a kind word to say about everyone. Catherine's husband, Arthur J. Fairweather, who predeceased her in 1999, always referred to his loving wife as a "friend for life". Catherine is predeceased by her parents, Bartolomeo and Catherine Taranto, and is survived by her three daughters and their husbands; Carolyn J. & Richard Hughes of Pittsburgh, PA, Janice A. & James Webster of Oakland, and Karen F. Fairweather of Fair Lawn, her four sons and their wives; Paul A. & Renee Fairweather of San Marcos, CA, Arthur R. & Charlene Fairweather of New Market, MD, Gregory L. Fairweather of Hewitt, NJ and Donald J. Fairweather and his companion, Victoria Tchoryk of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, a sister, Christina Hartman of Parmus and two brothers, Bartolomeo and his wife, Marie Taranto of West Caldwell, and Francis Taranto and his companion Holly Rango of Englewood Cliffs. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Gabrielle Hughes, Rachel Hughes-Doichev, MD and her husband, Nikola Doichev, William Webster, Carly Webster, Brandon Webster and Lee Fairweather and two great grandchildren, Maya and Nora Doichev. Visiting, Wednesday 2 - 4, 7 - 9 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 201-891-3400, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Mass Thursday, 10:00 AM at St. Luke's R.C. Church, 340 Franklin Tpke., Ho Ho Kus, NJ. Interment will follow in Madonna Cemetery, Ft. Lee, NJ.
