Obituary of Coloniel Edward Speshock

Colonel Edward J. Speshock Sr., age 93, of Wyckoff, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007 Born in Nesquehoning, PA he lived in Teaneck before moving to Wyckoff 20 years ago. Edward was a 1936 graduate of MacLean Hospital, Massachusetts with a BS degree. Served during WW II as a Second Lieutenant in the African campaign and served in Italy and France until the end of war. In 1948, Edward was assigned as a Unit Military Advisor to the United Nations in Haifa, Israel and visited Beirut, Jerusalem, Tel A-viv, Damascus and Syria. In 1950's after his tour in Korea, he was assigned to Central Command Headquarters, Tokyo, Japan. Then in 1954, he was assigned to the Inspector General Headquarters, First Army, Fort Jay, Governors Island, NY where he attained the rank of Colonel. Finally, in 1965, Edward was transferred to Fort Meade, Maryland prior to his retirement. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth's RC Church, Wyckoff and a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War. Surviving is his wife of 36 years, Patricia (nee Lowe) Spechock, a son, Edward J. Jr.and his wife Angie of Arlington VA, a daughter, Rosemary and her husband Robert Rupy of Lakewood, NJ, and two sisters, Johanna Hayes and Virginia Hoffman both of Pennsylvania. Also surviving are four Grandchildren, Susanna Allen, Steven, Kyle, and Paul Speshock and two Great Grandchildren, Ella Cate Allen and Abram Speshock. He was predeceased by his 1st wife, Agnes (nee Kelly) Speshock. Visiting will be on Friday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. Prayers will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday at the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff. Interment will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington VA. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Elizabeth's RC Church or Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corp., P. O.
