Obituary of Bertha Fortuin

FORTUIN, Bertha R. (nee Rozema) age 93, died peacefully on Friday, December 29, 2006 at the Holland Christian Home in North Haledon. Bertie was born in Prospect Park on September 12, 1913. She was a resident of Ridgewood before moving to North Haledon in 1999. Bertie taught 1st grade in the Prospect Park School System for 43 years before her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Paterson where she taught Sunday school, and then a member of the Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff. Surviving is her sister, Florence Van Harken-Clow and her husband Robert Clow of North Haledon, and her sister-in-law Rosemary Rozema. Bertie also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families. Bertie was pre-deceased by her husband Henry J.L. Fortuin, Jr. in 1998. The family will receive friends at the Chapel of the Holland Christian Home, 151 Graham Avenue, North Haledon on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm followed by the funeral service at 7:00 pm. A private graveside service will be held Thursday at the Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Holland Christian Home, the Christian Health Care Center, 301 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481, or the Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508.
