Obituary of Judith Swankie
SWANKIE, Judith S. (nee Schipper) age 90, died peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at the Holland Christian Home in North Haledon. Judy was born in Midland Park on August 11, 1916. She was a long time resident of Hawthorne before moving to the Holland Christian Home in 1996. In her early career, Judy was a coordinator for Sears Roebuck and Co. in Hawthorne before retiring in 1983. She was a charter member of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff, presently known as the Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church. Judy taught Sunday school, was a member of the evangelism committee and the ladies aid society of the church. Surviving are her children, Judith Vander Kooi of Coupertino, CA, Laura and her husband Peter Enneson of Toronto, Canada, Andrew R., Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Midland Park, Donald C. and his wife Nancy of Cary, NC, and Douglas R. and his wife Nina of Hillsdale. She also leaves ten grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and her brother Herman Schipper of Wyckoff. Judy was pre-deceased by her husband Andrew R. Swankie in 1973, her son Herman Swankie in 1943, and her son-in-law Marvin Vander Kooi in 1998. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at 10:00 am from the Chapel of the Holland Christian Home, 151 Graham Avenue, North Haledon, NJ. Interment will follow in the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. Visiting is Tuesday, January 2, 2007 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm also at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Christian Children's Retreat, 700 Mountain Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
