Obituary of Albert Huber

HUBER, Albert G. age 80, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. Al was born to Gustav and Lydia (nee Bruetsch) Huber on July 29, 1926 in Paterson, NJ. On October 4, 1952 in Ridgewood he married the former Betty J. Zahn who died December 8, 1997. He was a resident of Wyckoff for the past 51 years. Mr. Huber served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific and the Korean Conflict. He was a 1951 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and in 1988 retired after giving more than 35 years to the General Electric Company in Paterson as a Mechanical Engineer. Al was affiliated with the Boy Scouts for more than 40 years serving as Scout Master and Commissioner, receiving the Silver Beaver and Vigil Honor Awards. Al served on the Board of Directors of both the Bergen County and Wyckoff YMCA, was a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee of the Northwest Bergen Utilities Authority, a member of the Wyckoff Board of Adjustment and Planning Board, and was active in the Wyckoff Recreation programs, specifically baseball and Torpedoes soccer. After retirement Al engaged in another career of volunteerism with the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corp., he served the towns people with great vigor and enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow corps members for the past 18 years. Most recently, Mr. Huber received the William E. Boye Humanitarian Award for his service to the community from the Wyckoff Family YMCA, and in 2004, he received The Valley Hospital EMT of the Year Award. Surviving are his devoted children Russell J. and his wife Diana of Olean, NY, Karen H. and her husband Herb Meron of San Ramon, CA, and Kenneth A. and his wife Mary of Naperville, IL, four grandchildren, and his sister Lydia M. Huber of Midland Park. Al was pre-deceased by his brother Walter C. Huber in 2001. A celebration of Al's life with reception to follow will be held in the Community Room at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481 on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:00 pm.
