Obituary of Michelin Spagnola

SPAGNOLA, Michelin F. (nee Derych) age 93 of Waldwick, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Van Dyk Manor Nursing Home in Ridgewood. Michelin was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 2, 1913. She was a civilian Army employee at Ft. Hamilton in Brooklyn during WW II and the Army Air Corp at Randolph Field in Texas. A graduate of Brown's Business College of Brooklyn in 1932 she worked for many years in the Insurance industry in New York City and traveled extensively throughout the United States. Michelin had been a resident of Waldwick for the past 57 years, and volunteered her time at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. She was a mother to many and was a dear and loving friend and a brilliant hostess. Her green thumb made her gardens and potted plants note worthy. Surviving is her sister Anne Diggs of Cooper City, FL and several nieces and nephews. Michelin was pre-deceased by her husband Ralph Spagnola on February 13, 2000. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 30, 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (www.vpfh.com) 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Hospital Auxillary, 223 North Van Dien Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450.
