Obituary of Russell Horner

HORNER, Russell, age 92, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, December 4, 2009. Born in Weehawken, he lived in Mahwah for the last fifteen years. Russ served his country during World War II as a Captain in the United States Army Air Corps piloting a B-26 Bomber. He led his squadron that flew over Normandy Beach on D-Day. Russ completed 65 missions over Europe and was awarded thirteen Air Medals and the Distinguished Service Medal. He was stationed in Great Dunmow, England with the 386th Bomb Group, 555th Squadron. Russell retired as a Personnel Officer with Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City where he worked for thirty-five years. He is survived by the love of his life, Ann to whom he was happily married for sixty-two years. He is also survived by his five loving children: Catherine Olsen and husband Richard, Russell and wife Deborah, Karen Allen, Kevin and wife Cecilia and Pamela Moran and husband Bill. Also eleven grandchildren: Chris, Jennifer, Sean, Ryan, Michael, Chelsea, Kaitlin, Patrick, Kelly, Rebecca, and Casey, two great grandchildren: Haydn and Brady, and two sisters: Ruth and Barbara. Visiting, Monday, 5-8 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (www.vpfh.com) 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. Funeral service, Tuesday, 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah.
