Obituary of Joseph Rooney

ROONEY, Joseph P., age 81 died on Sunday, August 2, 2009. Born in Ireland, he came to the US in 1947 and lived in New York City until 1967 when he moved to Waldwick. Joe served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of VFW in Waldwick. Joe was an employee of the NY Transit Authority until he retired, and was a parishioner of St. Luke's RC Church in Ho-Ho-Kus. He is survived by his loving wife Bridie, his daughters Marian Himmelhoch of Allendale, Kathy Hillringhouse and her husband Jeff of Waldwick, Eileen Dinice and her husband John of Mahwah, his son John Rooney and his wife Jill of Monroe Township, and his 8 grandsons Barry, Brian, Sean, Ryan, Brandon, Kyle, Jack, and Colin. Joe is also survived by his sisters Alice Rolph of Michigan, Patricia Furlong of England, Kathleen White of California, and Ita Fox of Ireland. Visiting hours are Wednesday, 2 - 4 & 7 - 9pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 10:00am at St. Luke's RC Church, 340 Franklin Tpk, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ 07423. Cremation will be private.
