Obituary of Lawrence Knapp

LAWRENCE B. KNAPP, age 82, of Jupiter, FL, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2012. Born in York, PA in 1929, he moved to Ridgewood and later to Franklin Lakes. Larry graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1947 and attended Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. He served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. After the war Larry began his career with Berkshire Life Insurance Co. and later formed the Knapp Insurance Agency in Ridgewood which he owned and operated until retiring to Jupiter in 1991. His high energy led him to work part time at Enterprise Rent-A-Car until very recently. Larry leaves behind his beloved wife, Betty Woods Knapp, his children: Mary Knapp, Nancy and husband Leroy Klavis and Randy and wife Tracie Knapp; his grandchildren: Shannon, Samantha and Kate Knapp; his step-children: Barbara and husband Tom Batten, Daniel and wife Lucille Talbot and Nancy and husband Patrick Muldowney; his step-grandchildren: Kelly and Danny Batten and Rachel, Jillian and Brooke Muldowney; his sister in law, Joan Knapp; his nephews: Christopher and wife Victoria Knapp and Paul and wife Robyn Knapp; and grandnephews: Hendrick Knapp and David Knapp. He was predeceased by his brother David Knapp. Larry always had a smile on his face and easily put smiles on the faces of others with his quick wit and charm. He will truly be missed by family and friends. Following cremation in Florida, a gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5-8 pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. Interment will be private at Valleau Cemetery, Ridgewood.
