Obituary of Harry Getchell

GETCHELL, Harry, age 78 died on Saturday, July 4, 2009. Born in Waldwick, Harry grew up in Paterson, lived in Waldwick again for 16 years until 1976 when he moved to Wyckoff. Harry served in the US Navy at the Navy Department and aboard the USS Currituck. Harry started his career working for Alan Foods, then for Fairbanks Morse and then became a Cable Operator for Western Union International in New York City from 1961 until 1984. After retiring Harry volunteered as a Crossing Guard in Wyckoff, amongst other endeavors. He is survived by his loving wife Dolores, his son Frank and his wife Janet of Suffern, and 2 granddaughters, Amy and Jill. He is also survived by his brother George Biangardi of San Antonio, TX, and numerous other brother and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Robert and wife Fran, brother William and wife Vi, and sister Mary and husband Mitt. Visiting hours are Wednesday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Funeral Mass is Thursday 9:30 am at Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect St., Midland Park, NJ 07432. Interment will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
