To the Tansey Family, Although Denise and I had never met, I heard so much about her through my mother-in-law, Virginia. I learned she was a warm, caring individual who showed a great deal of strength and courage--especially in battling her recent illness. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all of you as you mourn her loss. May you find comfort in your wonderful, warm memories. With sympathy, Libby and Kevin McIntyre & Family

Denise, You will be so missed by all who loved you. I echo our brother Bob's sentiments about how important family was to you. I am so honored to say you were my sister-in-law, and that we became more than that--friends--in the last few years. Even when you were dealing with your own health issues, you had concern for me when I had mine. I think of you when I listen to this song by Patti Griffin. She introduces it by saying, "I wrote this song for my dog, and that's the truth." That always makes me smile. So, this song is for Phoebe, but also for you, Gerry, Jason, Caitie. I hope it brings some comfort. Each day you had together was a gift. Oh, heavenly day. All the clouds blew away. Got no trouble today, with anyone. The smile on your face, I live only to see. It's enough for me, baby. It's enough for me. Oh, heavenly day. Heavenly day, heavenly day. Tomorrow may bring me sorrow. Here's a little time we can borrow. Forget all our troubles with these moments so few. All we've got right now, the only thing we really want to do is have ourselves a heavenly day. lay here and watch the trees sway. Oh, can't see no other way, no way, no way, oh, heavenly day, heavenly day, heavenly day. No one at my shoulders bringing me fears. Got no clouds up above me, no, bringing me tears. I've got nothing to tell you, I've got nothing much to say, only I'm glad to be here with you on this heavenly, heavenly, heavenly, heavenly heavenly day. All the troubles gone away. Oh, heavenly day..... Your life was too short, but well lived. May you rest in peace. Love, Beth, Stefan, and Gabi.

I knew Denise not quite forty years, but almost that long. I’d stayed in the Washington, DC area after going there for college and met Denise on a visit to New Jersey to see our family. I remember being happy that my brother Gerry had met Denise. She just seemed so good and so right for him. Clearly Denise had a strong devotion to family. She and Gerry enjoyed a wonderful marriage. I’ve recalled many times that Denise and Gerry had a traditional one-year engagement during which they planned for a special wedding ceremony. Stephanie and I had had our first date and gotten married ourselves within that one year. To me, the emphasis and effort Denise and Gerry put toward their wedding ceremony was later reflected in their constant devotion to each other. Denise showed that constant strong devotion to Jason and Katie, even to the point of saving from “Day One” for Katie’s own upcoming wedding ceremony. Stephanie and I were abroad for 20 of the last 27 years. But Denise thought of us and stayed in touch with us all that time, wherever we were. Like Denise, Stephanie is an educator and these two sisters-in-law enjoyed exchanging views and their mutual sense of commitment to the next generation when our families were able to be together. We miss Denise. Our thoughts go out to her, and to Gerry, Jason and Katie. There is much we can learn from how she lived. Even through the sadness, there is much we can do to carry on remembering the value she held for family and the effort she made for community. Bob Tansey Brother of Gerry

Denise -
I remember……
mom putting socks on your hands so you wouldn't scratch the chicken pox on your face…..sharing a bed (not a bedroom) with my 6-year-old sister when I was 16 years old (yuck)…..your drawing a moustache on me in the family picture mom and dad had taken professionally because I threatened to do it to your picture……….and later…..meeting you half way up the parkway so Matt and Jason could spend time together…..your famous turkey gravy at Thanksgiving that Matt always teased you about (I liked your gravy)……….and later still…..talking about what our kids were doing, and being proud of them and the wonderful young adults they had become (there were times when they were younger that we weren't sure how that was going to go)……….and most recently..…worrying together about mom…she can drive you crazy, especially with her stubbornness (but I think that's what keeps her going)……finally having time to talk and spend time together more often……the little momentos we gave each other - I will always treasure them - I carry the cross in my pocket everyday - it reminds me of you and of my faith. I wish we had had more time together. I love you and I will miss you. - Tricia

I remember Denise helping Cait and I prepare for one of the school talent shows. Cait and I were continually practicing in her room, until her mom suggested that we go to the school where she taught, to practice on the stage. We kept playing the song over and over until we had it down, Donna Lewis - I Love You Always Forever. I remember we kept thinking the lyrics were something totally different. She worked with us until we had it down. We had a great time with her that day! She was a great woman and will be missed by everyone tremendously.

Hello Gerry, I am very sorry for your loss. Although Denise and I had not been in contact for so many years, her passing must be so very hard for you, Jason and Cailtin. I know that, in spite of the distance that existed between Denise and me, I feel her passing tremendously. I know there is little comfort that I can offer, but I do hope you know that you and Denise are in my thoughts.
