Obituary of Albert Van Houten

VAN HOUTEN, Albert age 65 of Midland Park, died Saturday, February 21, 2009. Al was born in Paterson on June 5, 1943 and lived in Midland Park for the past 35 years. He retired from the Village of Ridgewood as a supervisor for the Road Department in 2007 after 25 years of service. Al was a life member of the Midland Park Volunteer Fire Dept. where he served as chief from 1990 to 1993. He served his country during the Viet Nam War in the United States Air Force. Al enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and golf, but most of all enjoyed his family and grandchildren. Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Nancy (nee Winters), his devoted children, Albert E. Van Houten and his wife Tracy of McMichaels, PA, Terry Ann and her husband Ken Ferrantello of Montvale and Nancy and her husband Alan Fitzpatrick of Fair Lawn. Al also leaves his adoring grandchildren, Jacqueline, Christopher, Thomas, Melissa, Troy, Travis, Emily and Michael, his sisters Ann Miller and Marie Kuiken, his brother Ronald Van Houten, his mother-in-law Dorothy Churco, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday 10:30 am at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Interment will follow in the Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery. Visiting is Wednesday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Midland Park Ambulance Corps, P.O.Box 58, Midland Park, NJ 07432, or the Midland Park Volunteer Fire Dept., 45 Witte Drive, Midland Park, NJ 07432.
