Obituary of James Ten Kate
TEN KATE, James age 97 of Midland Park, died peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2009 surrounded by his family at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff. Jim was born in Midland Park on November 10, 1911 and was a lifelong resident there. His career as a plumber was with the George Van Varick Company in Clifton where he retired in 1971. Jim was a charter member of the Irving Park C.R.C. of Midland Park and currently a member of the Unity C.R.C. in Prospect Park. He was also a member of the plumbers local #14 in Lodi. Surviving is his wife, Eleanor (nee Vander Hook), his daughters, Doris and her husband Henry Zeeuw of Fort Mill, SC and Elaine and her husband Ray Dansen of Prospect Park, his step-daughters, Nelva and her husband George Martin of Wyckoff and Joyce Priestner of Midland Park, his step-son Bernard Haven and his wife Ruth of Prospect Park and his brothers, Edward and Harold Hollema. Jim also leaves 19 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his son Ronald Ten Kate in 1964, his first wife Connie (nee Van Teyens) in 1969 his grandson Henry Zeeuw, III in 1970 and his son-in-law Dennis Priestner in 2008. Funeral service will be held Thursday 10:30 am at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Interment will follow in the Fair lawn Memorial Cemetery. Visiting is Wednesday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508, or the Christian Health Care Center, 301 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
