Obituary of Pearl Abma

ABMA, Pearl E. (nee Schwier) age 72 of Mahwah formerly of Wyckoff, died peacefully on Saturday, November 08, 2008. Pearl was born in Paterson on May 5, 1936, she lived in Wyckoff for many years before moving to Mahwah in 2003. In more recent years Pearl kept herself busy working at Abma's Farm in Wyckoff as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Midland Park and Gideons International. Surviving are her devoted children, Mary and her husband Donald Westra, Jr. of North Haledon, Samuel B. Abma, Jr. of Midland Park, David J. Abma and his wife Patty of Mahwah, Thomas G. Abma and his wife Luann of Midland Park and Steven M. Abma and his wife Rebecca of Wanaque. Pearl also leaves her 14 adoring grandchildren, Grace, Seth, Kayleigh, Samantha, Corey, Morgan, Cassidy, Nathan and Noah Abma, Zacharie, Justin and Dylan Westra, and Krystine and David Verkaik, her caring sisters, Elsie and John Golden and Joan and Don Mabie and her brothers-in-law James and Judy Abma and Henry and Dottie Abma. Pearl was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 42 years Samuel B. Abma, Sr. in 1998, her father John R. Schwier in 2005, her mother Viola (nee Mansmann) Schwier in 2008 and her brother-in-law's Fred Abma in 2003 and William Abma in 2008. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 10:30 am at the Christian Reformed Church of Midland Park, 183 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park, NJ. Interment will follow in the Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery. Visiting is Monday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ramapo Camp of Gideons International, P.O. Box 242, Midland Park, NJ 07432.
