Obituary of Peter Duchak

DUCHAK, Peter, age 89, died on Thursday, October 2, 2008. Born in Johnstown, PA, he lived in Garfield and Midland Park before moving to Pittsburg, PA 2 years ago. Peter served his country with distinction in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He later worked for over thirty years with Heyden Chemical Company of Garfield until retiring in 1977. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, he was very active in his three sons athletic careers. He is survived by his two dear sons; James M. and his wife Vera of Valencia, PA and Douglas A. and his wife Merri of Mahwah and also by his dear daughter-in-law Deborah Duchak of Middlebury, CT. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Donovan, Aaron, Whitney, Adam, Ryan, Dean, Stacey and Cory, seven great-grandchildren as well as two sisters; Irene Vasil of Clifton and Olga Williamson of Tallahassee, FL. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary (nee Polioka) of sixty-five years in 2006 and his beloved son Dean in 1985. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. A funeral service will take place on Monday, 10:30 AM at the funeral home followed by interment at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Alpine Learning Group, 777 Paramus Road Paramus, NJ 07652, would be appreciated.
