Obituary of Dennis Mylson

Dennis Myslon, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away at Villa Marie Claire Hospice in Saddle River, NJ on Tuesday, July 14 due to complications following liver cancer. He was 84. Dennis was born in Washington Heights, NY on March 23, 1931 to his parents Maria and Theodore Mylson. He graduated from City College in 1953 with a degree in Business. He later joined the Marines, serving his country where he was stationed in San Diego, CA and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Upon leaving the Marines, he worked in New York City as a General Manager for the retail store Korvettes. In the summer of 1967 he met Vida Castineira and often shared that it is when his life truly started. Dennis and Vida married on June 23, 1973 and settled down in Montvale, NJ where they built their life together. They had three children, Amanda, Vida and Denyce. Dennis left his job at Korvettes and went on to own and run Henry David's Restaurant in Keene, NH and Dairy Queens in New Milford and Allendale, NJ. Dennis was a generous, kind and supportive friend, father and husband. He had a stellar work ethic that he proudly passed on to his three girls and all of his employees in his Dairy Queen family. He took great pride in personal relationships and preferred doing business the old-fashioned way and was often admired by those he worked with in the community. In his personal time he loved traveling with his family, seeing theatre and listening to baseball games on his radio. He was a dedicated fan of the New York Yankees and Giants. Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Vida Mylson; his daughter Amanda Mylson; his daughter and son-in-law Vida Mylson and Eric Weiner; his daughter and son-in-law, Denyce Mylson and Joseph Olenick; and five grandchildren, Gary, Ethan, Zoe, Sydney and Lucy. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and brother James. The family will receive relatives and friends at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ on Friday, July 17 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm.
