Obituary of Helen Tanis

TANIS, Helen K. (Start) age 95 died peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Holland Christian Home in North Haledon. Born in Wyckoff, Helen lived in Midland Park for 52 years before moving to the Holland Home 15 years ago. Many of you would remember Helen behind the counter at Andy's Luncheonette in Midland Park before her retirement in 1990. She was a member of the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church, the Ruth Circle and Senior Choir of the church and sang many a solo much to the delight of the congregation. Surviving are her devoted children, Cheryl and her husband Bart Leegwater, William Tanis and his wife Vicky and Jayne and her husband Roger Spoelstra, 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Helen was pre-deceased by her husband Anthony W. Tanis in 2002, her brother, William Start and sister Adrianna Jans. The Tanis Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 24, 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Holland Christian Home, 151 Graham Ave., North Haledon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 25, 11:00 AM at the Home. Interment will follow at the Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508 or the Bethany Christian Services, 12-19 River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410. Arrangements are by the Olthuis Funeral Home in Midland Park (www.vpfh.com).
