Obituary of Charles F. Hess
HESS, Charles F., Jr. age 88, died on Monday, August 11, 2008. Born in New Providence, PA, he lived for 50 years in Wyckoff before moving to Hawthorne two years ago. Charles was a sales representative with Bakers Equipment Winkler of IL. A faithful member of the Wyckoff Reformed Church, he was a Sunday school teacher there for 40 years. He was also a member of Wyckoff Masonic Lodge 287. Charles is survived by his beloved wife Helen (nee Schlenz) to whom he was married for 28 wonderful years, his three children; Susan Maliot of Germantown TN, Frederick Hess of Vancouver, B.C. and Nancy Hess of Lynnfield, MA, his two step-children; Vera Eileen Fremgen of West Milford and Judith Jacobson of Hawthorne. He is also survived by his granddaughter Jenna Brooke Maliot, five step-grandchildren; Robert, Michael, Rick and Susan Fremgen and Chris OBrien, three step-great-grandchildren; Portia, Madison, and Anabelle. He was predeceased by his beloved first wife Leah (nee Heist) in 1962, as well as his brother Dean and sister Betty. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, 1-4 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (www.vpfh.com) 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. Funeral services will take place on Monday, 11 AM at Wyckoff Reformed Church, 580 Wyckoff Ave. Wyckoff. Interment will be Tuesday, 1:30 at New Providence Mennonite Cemetery, New Providence, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge, 2 Shelter Lane, Oakland, NJ 07436, would be appreciated.
