Obituary of Nicholas M. Van Calcar

Van Calcar, Nicholas M, age 57, of Franklin Lakes, lost his battle to cancer on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Nicholas was born in Paterson, NJ and had been a resident of Franklin Lakes for many years. He was an athlete and graduate of Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey and a 1980 graduate of Lycoming College, Williamsport, PA where he was a member of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. He was a Partner and Vice President of LVC Window Blinds and Drapery, Inc., Garfield, NJ. He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament RC Church, Franklin Lakes. He enjoyed playing first base on many softball teams over the years and was an avid golfer and member of Apple Ridge Country Club, Mahwah, NJ, attaining membership into the "Hole-In-One" Club. Although committed to many fundraising organizations over the years, he was actively involved at the Academy of the Most Blessed Sacrament as chair of fundraising efforts and had served as a basketball coach for the Academy. He also coached Franklin Lakes Recreation soccer and softball. He will be cherished as a father, husband, son and brother and a great friend to all who knew and loved him. Nicholas is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Noel (nee Dever), his two loving daughters; Noelle Kathleen Van Calcar and Jillian Eileen Van Calcar, all of Franklin Lakes, his mother, Alma (nee Stubeck) Van Calcar of Wyckoff, NJ, a sister Mary Landy and her husband, Craig of Montclair, NJ, and three brothers; Michael Van Calcar and his wife, Jackie of Lagrange, NY, Lance Van Calcar and his wife, Jackie of Wyckoff, NJ and John Van Calcar and his wife, Kelly of Wyckoff, NJ. Nicholas is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Nick touched many lives in so many ways and brought laughter and enjoyment to all who were lucky enough to know and love him. His love of life was infectious and will continue to endure through the many stories and memories he was a part of. Nicholas was predeceased by his father, Nicholas Van Calcar on June 8, 2001. Visiting hours will be Saturday, February 14th from 3-7 pm and Sunday 2-4, 7-9 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 16th, 10:00 AM at Most Blessed Sacrament RC Church, 787 Franklin Lakes Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ 07417.
