Obituary of Raymond Hopf

HOPF Raymond W., 99, of Wyckoff, died Thursday, January 29, 2015. Born and raised in Newark he moved to Wyckoff in 1950. Ray served in the US Army during World War II. He played semi-pro baseball on the US Army baseball team and for the Newark Bears. Ray also served in the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department Company 1 for over 60 years. He was a Manager for A & P Co. in Newark for 35 years until he retired. He then went on to work for Franklin Iron Works in Wyckoff for another 15 years, then went to work for the Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Eva, his children: Paul and his wife Diana of Wyckoff, Susan Pelz of Ramsey, Keith and his wife Kathleen of Oakland and Lisa and her husband Barry McMackin of Oakland, his 9 grandchildren: Bob, Lorie, Stephanie, Alison, Kimberly, Christopher, Meagan, Michael and Kevin and his 4 great grandchildren: Evan, Riley, Samantha and Zachary. Ray was predeceased by his son-in-law Frank Pelz in 2014. Visiting hours are Tuesday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. There will be a religious service at 3:30pm and a Fireman's service at 7:30pm on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Protection Fire Company 1, PO Box 232, Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
