Obituary
Obituary of Francis Volino
Francis Anthony Volino, 77, of Glen Rock went peacefully home to the Lord on Monday, January 19, 2015. He is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife of 52 years, Kathryn M. Volino, who passed away in August, 2014.
Born to Dr. Liborio A. and Palma A. Volino on September 13, 1937, Frank was raised in Yonkers, NY. He lived briefly in Scarsdale, NY, before relocating to Glen Rock, NJ, where he resided for 45 years.
He earned a B.B.A. in Accounting from Manhattan College, where he also served in the Army Reserve. His successful career as a Wall Street accountant/analyst spanned over 25 years. He worked for 20 years at Merrill Lynch before accepting the position of Chief Financial Officer of the Ronald McDonald House of New York. Frank found great passion and purpose throughout his 17 years at the Ronald McDonald House. He especially enjoyed the opportunity to regularly interact with patients and families residing there. Frank retired in December of 2007.
Frank was a devoted family man who derived great joy from spending time with his wife, Kathy, his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Frank and Kathy loved to travel, host dinner parties for family and friends, play tennis, garden, and enjoy NYC together. They loved to dance and spent much of their time on the dance floor at events and celebrations. They took Italian language classes and enjoyed applying what they learned during visits to Italy. One of their favorite places was Montauk, NY, where Frank loved boating, fishing, and the beach.
He took pleasure and found great satisfaction in home improvement projects. Nothing was too challenging. He had an incredible gift for fixing things, be it toys, bikes, electronics, even broken hearts.
Frank adored his grandchildren and cultivated a special relationship with each. He loved attending their sporting events, recitals, and school events, and he was a constant source of encouragement in their lives.
Frank was known to all for his authentic, humble, and affable personality. His warm smile and sparkling eyes made him especially easy to talk to. He couldn't help but make friends wherever he went. During retirement, Frank used his interpersonal gifts to serve as a Stephen Minister, providing one-on-one emotional and spiritual care to those in need. Frank was an active member, over the years, of St. Catherine's Church in Glen Rock, St. Mary's in Pompton Lakes, and more recently, Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, where he proudly guided his grandson through the RCIA journey. He profoundly demonstrated his faith throughout his cancer battle. His grateful heart, through his trying circumstances, touched the lives of all who cared for him up until his final days.
Frank is survived by his son Francis B. Volino and his wife Kathleen, their children Alyse, Benjamin, and Harrison of Mahwah, NJ; his daughter Christine M. Hannon, her husband Kevin and their children Craig, Christopher, and Kyle of Houston TX; and his brother Dr. Ronald J. Volino of Yonkers, NY.
