Obituary of Doris Vonk

Vonk, Doris M., age 88, of Palm Coast, FL formally of Midland Park, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on December 26, 2014 at The Avante in Ormond Beach, FL. Doris was born in Paterson, NJ on August 17, 1926. Doris was a resident of Midland Park for over 50 years before moving to Palm Coast, FL. She was a member of Lifecoast Church in Palm Coast, FL and a former member of Grace United Methodist Church, Wyckoff. Before relocating to Palm Coast, FL, she retired as a salesperson from Kitchen Magic, Inc. Prior to that, Doris worked for several companies that demonstrated new products, mostly in the food industry, as she loved talking with people. She enjoyed knitting most of her life, making sweaters for everyone in her family. She also took up needlepoint and embroidery, using those skills to make items for the Grace Church Christmas Fair. At age 65, she finally fulfilled a lifelong dream and began tap dancing, which she continued for many years. Doris was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Jacob "Jake" J. Vonk on December 24, 2006. Surviving are her devoted daughters, Cheryl Lynn Meny and her husband, Joseph of Jackson, NJ and Janis Gunberg and her husband, John of Palm Coast, FL. Doris also leaves her adoring granddaughters, Laura (Meny) Winters and her husband, James and Stacey (Gunberg) Arnold and her husband, Tim. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 9:30 - 11:00 AM with a Funeral Service following at 11:00 AM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. The interment will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa, NJ.
