Obituary of Leonard Tanis

Tanis, Leonard age 83 of Oakland died Monday, June 30, 2008 at his home. Born in Paterson he lived in Oakland since 1960. Leonard was a Machinist for Van Vlaanderen Machine Co of Paterson for 35 years before his retirement in 1988. He was an Army veteran who served during WW II. He was a Past Commander and member of American Legion Post 369, Oakland, NJ, and served on the Special Police Force of the Oakland Police Dept, and as a School Crossing Guard. Surviving is his wife Shirley (nee Debrulye) Tanis of Oakland, his sons, James Tanis of Oakland, Robert and his wife Maryellen Tanis of Ringwood, Leonard R. and his wife Patricia Tanis of Oakland, NJ. Also surviving are his 5 grandchildren, his 6 step-children, 9 step-grand children and 5 step-great grandchildren, His sisters, Nellie Haycock, Betty Sarno, Catherine Jindracek, Eva Sydney and Helen Tanis and many nieces and nephews. Visiting Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Service Thursday 10:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery.
