I am saddened to hear about Mary Jean. The loss of a sibling can be more difficult in some ways than the loss of a parent. I have lost 2 brothers in the last few years. There is a special bond between brothers and sisters from the times of fun , competition , discipline and sharing .. This bond does not go away even when that person is gone.I remember the get togethers we had as young cousins at Grandma McKeever's house in Forest Hills. Because I am the oldest McKeever grandchild I had the job of keeping an eye on the younger cousins when we played outside. I fondly remember visiting all of you at your New Jersey Shore cottage with Grandma during the summer. I felt you were so lucky to spend your summer there enjoying sun, beach and surf.. This holiday season will be different than the ones you shared in the past, Celebrate Mary Jean when you get together this year. Share the happy times you had together not the sad times. We all get busy with our lives but we have to live our purpose for being here. At least we have memories to keep us connected.

I will remember my Aunt Mary Jean's beauty, inside and out. She was quick with a smile and loved to laugh. Growing up, I remember she always went out of her way to spoil her nieces and nephews at Christmas. As a child, I was fascinated by her pretty, long hair and remember thinking she looked like a princess in her wedding gown. She was a kind, thoughtful and loving person who will be dearly missed. May she rest in peace in His loving arms.

I first met Mary Jean when i was very young, around 6 or 7, i think. She came into our family when she began dating my brother Tommy.. We seemed to be all lined up to meet her she recalled and I'm sure we were a sight to see.. We loved Mary Jean ...she was the sixth sister in our family....I will always remember her with great fondness, and always regret losing touch with her over the years.. I will always remember you took me in like a sister at Avenue L. The short time I lived in Waldiwick, I will always remember the (girl talk) conversations in your room. It was a cold December 1991 day when my Dad's funeral Mass was held at Sacred Heart Church in North Merrick, New York. Although a parishioner at Cure of Ars in Merrick, my Dad's funeral was held at Sacred Heart due to construction going on at his parish church. When we pulled up in the limo I noticed this lone female standing at the church doors. I hadn't seen Maryjean in many years but recognized her as I came closer. I was so moved that she had come from so far away to attend his funeral. I only wish I were now able to reciprocate.
When we were young children we spent Sundays at Grandma McKeever's house on Saunders Street in Queens. After dinner we would play games at the dining room table or sing songs for other family members. When we moved to Merrick there were fewer visits but I remember so clearly when the Carberrys and McMahons came over, we kids would play hide and seek in the darkness upstairs, sometimes hiding by standing on top of the bedroom dressers.
I remember in the summer going to visit in Rockaway to an upstairs apartment. I can hear Uncle Eddie Carberry, with his hearty laugh and see him sitting in an overstuffed chair in the living room drinking beer to cool off from the hot summer heat. We kids would go down to Rockaway Beach which was only a short walk from the house.
It all seems like only yesterday and here we are saying our final goodbyes. Just last night I asked my sister Katie if she knew how Maryjean was doing. Now today comes the sad news. Rest in peace Maryjean. And thank you for being such a devoted family member. God bless you always. You are in my prayers. love, Your cousin, Eileen.

My cousin, my friend....you always made me laugh, but today you made me cry. I have wonderful memories of our years growing up together and will cherish our friendship for the remainder of my life. Sorry to learn of Mary Jean's passing. We shared very happy times as children. She was so full of energy and fun. Her Irish eyes were always smiling.
