Obituary of George Melvin Osgoodby

OSGOODBY, George Melvin, age 79, died on Thursday, June 26, 2008. Born in Evanston, IL, he lived in Waldwick and Toms River before moving to Somerset. In his early years George was an accomplished pianist who soloed with the Chicago Jr. Symphony Orchestra at the age of 14. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force and was a member of the American Legion Post 57, Waldwick. A sales representative with McGraw Hill Publishing Company in New York City, he retired in 1998. George remained active as a fundraiser for his alma mater Harvard University. He was a member of St. Luke's R.C. Church, Ho-Ho-Kus. George is survived by his beloved wife Rita (nee Schwemmer) to whom he was married for 54 years, his two daughters Mary Albright and her husband Glen of Union and Nancy Osgoodby of Paramus, his son George M. Osgoodby and his wife Mary Ann of Waldwick and two grandchildren Thomas and Gregory Osgoodby. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home (vpfh.com) 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff. A funeral mass will take place on Monday, 10:30 AM at St. Luke's R.C. Church 340 Franklin Turnpike Ho-Ho-Kus. Interment will follow at St. Luke's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Alzheimer's Association 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834, would be appreciated.
