Diane Schoendorf

Obituary of Diane Schoendorf

SCHOENDORF, Diane E. age 67, passed away serenely on October 22, 2014 with her family by her side after a long and courageous struggle with cancer. A long time New Jersey resident she was raised in Lodi New Jersey and upon marrying moved to Ramsey and then to Wyckoff in the early Seventies. Upon graduation from high school she attended William Paterson College where she met her husband Robert Schoendorf. She was active in college life and was the senior class treasurer at William Paterson. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and went on to work at Fieldstone Middle school in Montvale. She continued her education and attained two Masters Degrees at WPU. Upon retirement Diane returned to William Paterson as an Adjunct professor whose responsibility was assisting senior students as they completed their field experience. In her professional and personal life she was a sports enthusiast. Competitive by nature she participated in tennis tournaments and skied for most of her adult life. As a teacher she coached middle school girls' basketball and basketball teams. Her greatest joy was being active with her sons of whom she was so proud. Whether at the shore, on the sidelines of soccer and lacrosse fields or especially on the ski slopes she lived life to the fullest. She will be remembered by many friends for her generous contribution of time, talent and energy. As a Cub and Boy Scout volunteer she co-chaired a cub den and served as a counselor at Camps Glenn Grey and NO-Be- Bosco for many summer sessions. As a NYSSRA member she officiated at Alpine ski races. The winter also brought out the face paint as a reoccurring member of FLOW Follies at her sons' high school. She rounded out her extraordinarily busy life as a volunteer in the Wyckoff Schools PTA's Economy Shop, as an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church's Nursery School and later in life was active in Advent Lutheran Church as a Treasurer and Stewardship Chair. She managed to do all the above while still being a devoted mother and homemaker. She will be remembered by the many lives she has touched. She is survived by her three beloved sons, Bobby, William and Thomas and her devoted husband Robert. The Schoendorf family will receive friends on Sunday, October 26, 2014, 2:00 until 6:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. A Memorial service will be held Monday 11:00 AM at Advent Lutheran Lutheran Church, 777 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (msk.org), P.O. Box 5028, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
