Obituary of Helen Sloyer-Suffern

Sloyer-Suffern, Helen, (nee Schwenker) of Midland Park and Suffern, NY died Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the Christian Health Care Center, Wyckoff. Born in Schenectady, NY, Helen graduated magna cum laud from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY class of 1942 with a Bachelor of Science in Music. She also was trained as a concert pianist and music teacher. Helen retired in 1992 after 22 years as a librarian for the Lodi Memorial Library. She was a member of Hope Reformed Church, Clifton. Surviving is her son, Robert A. Sloyer of Winston-Salem, NC and her daughter, Rhoda Sloyer-Reynolds of Midland Park. Also surviving are her step-children, Rev. Edward Suffern of Iowa, Mary Elyse Lamet of Massachusetts, Richard Suffern of Vermont and 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her first husband Rev. G. Travers Sloyer in 1976 and her second husband, Rev. Dr. Richard Munn Suffern in 2002. Visiting hours are Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Olthuis Funeral Home, 159 Godwin Ave. Midland Park, NJ. Funeral service Thursday 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Luzerne Cemetery, Lake Luzerne, New York.
