Obituary of Basil P. Chapman

Chapman, Basil P. age 90 of Midland Park died Sunday, October 12, 2014. Born in Kearny, N.J. He lived there for 61 years before moving to St. Petersburg, FL and Ocean Gate, NJ. He was a parishioner of St. Barnabas R.C. Church, Bayville, NJ and Holy Family R.C. Church, St. Petersburg, FL. He was a Navy veteran who served during WW II. Before his retirement, Basil was a Police Officer for the Kearny Police Dept. for 30 years. He was a member of the Wilson-Gugelman VFW Post 1302, Kearny, NJ, PBA Local #21, Kearny, NJ, The Holy Name Society at St. Stephen's Church in Kearny, and a volunteer for the Habitat for Humanity and Bicycle Work Shop both of Florida. Surviving are his children, Basil, Patricia, Eileen and Robert, grandchildren, Regina and John Basil and great granddaughter, Giselle. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Madeline (nee Cushing) Chapman in 2012. Visiting hours are Friday 6-7:30 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Mass, Saturday 9:30 am at St. Barnabas R.C. Church, 33 Woodland Ave. Bayville, NJ. Entombment will be held at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River, NJ.
