Obituary of Arend Van Der Plaats

Arend "Ante" Van Der Plaats died on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. He was 86. Born in Prospect Park he was a long time resident of Franklin Lakes. Arend served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he was a self-employed mason contractor in Franklin Lakes, a member of the Franklin Lakes Seniors and the American Legion Post #240 in Prospect Park. Arend is survived by his wife of 63 years Eleanor Van Der Plaats, two daughters: Cathie Van Der Plaats, Barbara Murray and her husband David; two granddaughters Elizabeth and Alexandra Murray, three sisters: Trina Ackerman, Florence Koert, Frances Dykhouse, a brother George Van Der Plaats, and two predeceased sons: Martin A. and Dennis W. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 10:00 AM until service time at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM in the funeral home and the interment will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa.
