Obituary of Jane T. Van Lenten

VAN LENTEN, Jane Telegen (nee Vanden Berg, age 93, passed away at her home on Saturday, June 7, 2008. A longtime resident of the Waldwick-Wyckoff area, Jane was born and raised in Paterson NJ. She was educated in the public school system of Paterson, graduating from Eastside High School in 1932. She then graduated from Pace Institute, New York, NY which prepared her for a secretarial position at the National Dyeing and Printing Company. After marrying her husband, Louis S. Van Lenten, she became a full time wife and homemaker. Following WWII, she served as a den mother for a long period in the reorganized Wyckoff Scout Pack 165. She was a founding member of the East Wyckoff Community Club and served as a Sunday School teacher. As a member of the Wyckoff Woman's Club for forty years, she held various positions on the board and on committees. Her church homes were the Wyckoff Reformed Church for twenty-five years followed by twenty-three years at the first Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood and currently at the Wyckoff Reformed Church. Jane took an active part in the NJ Utility Investors working as co-chairman. After her husbands' retirement, they traveled extensively, both in the U.S. and abroad. Her favorite area was Scandinavia. Later, cruises became her favored way of travel. Her hobbies were many. She enjoyed sewing, making clothes for herself and the growing family. She did needlepoint, knitting, ceramics; and her extraordinary talent was focused on quilting. Competitive submissions of her quilts in shows in CT and the NJ State Woman's Federation shows brought her awards and citations. Survivors include her husband of seventy years, Louis S. Van Lenten, a son Paul and wife Sharon Van Lenten of Pace Florida; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Van Lenten of Rockville, MD, son-in-law Michael Stamilio of Lewisburg, PA; sister Alice Wiley of Brick, NJ; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Her son Lee of Rockville, MD and daughter Ellen of Lewisburg, PA, predeceased her. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff (www.vpfh.com). Funeral Service, Thursday, 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment, Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Wyckoff Reformed Church, 580 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481, would be appreciated.
