Obituary of Kenneth Tanis

TANIS, Kenneth, J. age 90 of North Haledon formerly of Prospect Park, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Ken was born and raised in Prospect Park and lived there until moving to North Haledon. He retired as an Electrical Supervisor at PSE&G after 40 years of service. Ken served his country proudly during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. He demonstrated a lifelong commitment to service on various boards and committees for the church, Eastern Christian School, and Passaic County. He had a passion for the Holland Christian Home of North Haledon, and served proudly on its board. He loved music and sang constantly. Surviving are his wife, Ruth (nee Fox), his devoted children, Barbara and her husband, John Belanus, Kenneth J. Jr. and his wife Cathy, and Cornelius J. and his wife Lori, of Chicago. Also surviving are his 10 gregarious grandchildren, Jonathan, Kenneth, Julia, Kristina, Kelly, Brian, Cornelius, Alison, Izaak, and Faith. His great grandchildren are Taylor, Jackson, Ryan, Hunter, Kaitlyn, Logan and Mason. He is also survived by his siblings Cornelius (Case) Tanis, and Martina Kuiper. Ken was pre-deceased by his beloved Annabelle De Meester in 1992. The Tanis family will receive friends on Saturday, September 13, 2014, 2:00 to 5:00PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 3:00PM at the Faith Community Christian Reformed Church, 530 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Interment will be private at the Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508.
