Obituary of Edward J. Shinnick

Captain Edward J. Shinnick, 51 of Midland Park died on Thursday, May 29, 2008. Cherished husband of Michele (nee Bodtmann). Loving father of Jessica and Edward. Devoted son of Ruth Shinnick and the late Edward Shinnick of Jersey City. Dearly beloved brother of Jennifer Garulle of Hopatcong and Susan Jackson of West Orange. Edward touched the lives of so many people; dear brother- and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and many cousins. Edward loyally and lovingly served the communities of Jersey City when he joined the Jersey City Police Department in 1985. As a P.O., Edward received 13 Departmental Excellent Police Service Awards, a P.O.B.A. Valor Award for Bravery, a F.O.P. Meritorious Service Award for Bravery and a F.O.P. Outstanding Police Work Award. In 1995, Edward was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he served in the Operations Division, the Neighborhood Task Force and as Investigator for the Office of the Chief in Internal Affairs. When promoted to Lieutenant in 2002, Edward worked in the Operations Division and as an Investigator and Executive Officer for the Chief in Internal Affairs where he continued to serve as Captain when promoted in 2007. Edward received a Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from Seton Hall University and Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Jersey City State College. Family will receive friends at Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect St. Midland Park on Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, 10:00 AM. Interment, George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to A Journey For 9-11, c/o Valley National Bank P.O.
