Obituary of Elmer Jeltes

JELTES, Elmer, age 91, of Wyckoff, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, September 5, 2014. Born and raised in Midland Park, Elmer moved into Wyckoff in 1951. Elmer was a Service Manager for Burroughs Corporation in Paramus. He also owned Steaks and Stuff Restaurant in Wyckoff. He was an active member of Hawthorne Gospel Church where he served in many capacities including the Church Board. He lived a life of service beginning with serving his country in the US Coast Guard during World War II. He then volunteered in the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Deputy Chief of Community Engine Company 2 from 1969 - 1970, and the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps where he served as Captain from 1990 - 1992. He is survived by his children: Lynn and her husband Nick Veenstra of North Haledon, Sharon and her husband Alan Blom of Mahwah and David Jeltes and his wife Sue Ellen of Oakland, his adoring grandchildren: Sharon, David (Jenny), Nick (Kara), Kristen, Laura (Paul), Dana (Nick), Dan (Lauren), Kelly, Drew and Lindsey. He was blessed with 7 great grandchildren: William, Jack, Asher, Ashlyn, Drew, Paul, and Austin. Elmer was predeceased by his wife Janet in 2004. Visiting hours are Sunday 3 - 7 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. There will be an Ambulance Corps and Fire Department service at 6:30pm. Funeral Service is Monday, 10:30 am at the Hawthorne Gospel Church, 2000 Route 208 North, Hawthorne, NJ 07506. Interment will follow in the Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hawthorne Gospel Missionary Fund or the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 214, Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
