Obituary of Jerome Coyne

COYNE, Jerome (Jerry) J., Sr., 79, of Wyckoff, NJ passed away on Sunday, July 6th, 2014. Jerry is beloved husband of Elizabeth (nee Hynes) and loving and proud father to Suzanne (Sean), Jerry, Jr. (Victoria), Jim (Pam), and Lizanne and devoted to his nine grandchildren Jerry III, Jimmy, William, Patrick, Andrew, Elizabeth, Daniel, Molly, and Luke. He was born in New York City on November 16th, 1934 to Florence (nee Rodgers) and Thomas Coyne. Jerry grew up in the Bronx along with seven brothers and sisters: Ellen, Joseph, Florence, and twins Carol and Kevin, he was pre-deceased by Richard and Thomas. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, received a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Maryknoll College, and a MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Jerry was a history teacher at John Adams High School before joining IBM's Electric Typewriter Division as a sales representative in May 1960. Jerry retired in 1993 after having spent thirty-three years at IBM. The first half of Jerry's IBM career was spent in sales and marketing assignments in locations including Washington as a Branch Manager and Chicago as a District Manager. The second half of his IBM tenure was spent in a variety of IBM Corporate assignments which included establishing IBM's Direct Marketing practice and launching IBM's Product Centers. In addition, Jerry was IBM's External Program Manager for New Jersey where he was responsible for communication with government officials and represented IBM on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Bergen County, NJ. After IBM, Jerry worked for the United Way, Premier Teleconferencing, and taught at Ramapo College. The Coyne family will receive family and friends at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, 2:00 until 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00 PM. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Interment will follow in Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.
