Obituary of Gerardo Fonte

FONTE, Gerardo L. age 84 of Garfield, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 25, 2014. Born in Calabria, Italy, Gerardo came to the United States in 1966 settling with his family in Jersey City. He moved to Garfield in 1999. He was a Carpenter for Joseph Cory Delivery Service in Jersey City for 25 years before retirement in 1992. Surviving are his devoted children, Michael and his wife Deborah, Maria and her fiancé John Tomasi, Valeria and her husband Giuseppe Acito, Katrina and her husband John Toussas and Nancy and her fiancé Chandev Gooneratne. He also leaves his 5 adoring grandchildren, Joseph, Elizabeth, Tiana, Michael, and Marcello. Gerardo was pre-deceased by his wife Rita in 1998 and his daughter Alessandra in 2012. Funeral services will be held Friday, 9:30 AM from the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral mass will follow 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth's RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. The Fonte family will receive family and friends on Thursday 4:00 until 9:00 PM.
