Obituary of Harold T. Batten, Sr.
Harold T. Batten, 92, of Wyckoff, passed away on December 14, 2015. Loving husband to Emily for 66 years, devoted father to Thomas and his wife Barbara, cherished grandfather to Daniel Batten, Kelly Liberati and her husband Giancarlo, and adoring great grandfather to Sophia.
Harold was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. serving during WWII and participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He attended St. Bernard’s Prep School, Gladstone, New Jersey, graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and later graduated from Stonier Graduate School of Banking.
Prior to retiring from his position as Vice President at PNC Bank, Harold volunteered his time as Treasurer for New Jersey Camp for Blind Children for almost 30 years, a member on the Board of Directors of the Wyckoff YMCA, and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Clifton Kiwanis Club.
For many years, Harold and his wife spent winter months in St. Petersburg, Florida, where they enjoyed playing golf and tennis. He was a devoted family man who loved spending time on the golf course with his wife, son and grandson. His family brought him great happiness, and in the last year it was his great granddaughter who brought an extra sparkle to his eyes.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 10:00 AM until service time at Vander Plaat funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The memorial service will begin at 12:00 PM and the interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson. Contributions in Harold’s memory may be made to the Marine Corp.
