Obituary of Donald A. Gheysen

Donald Albric Gheysen passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the age of 83. Born in Chicago, IL, he was a long time resident of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, before moving to Park Ridge, NJ, 12 years ago. Don attended the College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN and served in the U.S. Army. He joined Pfizer, Inc. in Chicago and in 1969 was transferred to Headquarters in New York City. In 2000 Don retired from Pfizer as a Corporate Senior Analyst after a 44 year career.

 

Don was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved travelling and caring for his home but mostly cherished time with his family. He was a true gentleman, always kind and thoughtful. Don was the Adult Education Chairman and served on the Parish Council of St. Luke’s Church in Ho-Ho-Kus.  In retirement, he generously gave his time as a hospice volunteer.

 

Don is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Audrey A. Gheysen; four daughters: Kimberly G. Raiford, her husband William; Pamela L. Gheysen, her companion Peter Solazzo; Mary Clare Brandle, her husband Brian; Amy C. Labanowski, her husband Kurt; six grandchildren: Michael, Jimmy, Caitie, Nicole, Nick, and Jake; his brother Arthur Gheysen and his sister Mariann Gheysen. Don was predeceased by his brother Robert Gheysen and grandson Christopher Brandle.

 

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 2 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 2 Fremont Ave., Park Ridge, NJ. Interment will be private.
