Obituary of Thora O'Keefe Schmidt

Thora O’Keefe Schmidt of Wayne, NJ, died peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the age of 90.  Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, she was a graduate of Mount Ida College.   Thora was a long-time resident of Wyckoff before moving to Wayne.  She also enjoyed residences in Loveladies, NJ, and Fort Lauderdale, FL, for many years.  Thora gave generously to many charities and philanthropic organizations and served as a volunteer at Valley Hospital.  She was known for her huge heart, an unfailingly pleasant, optimistic disposition, and her unbounded love for her family and friends. Thora was predeceased by husbands Robert O’Keefe and Fred Schmidt, and cousin Andy Schirrmeister.  She is survived by her children Thora Zale and her husband, Matt, Robert O’Keefe, Jr., and his wife, Jane, and Lizbeth O’Keefe, grandchildren Justin (Carly), Courtney (Ian), Robert and Kaitlin, and great-grandson Oliver.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, February 20^th from 4- 7pm, Wednesday, February 21^st from 10-11:30am.  Funeral Service 11:30am at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ.  Interment will be at The Evergreens, Brooklyn.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
