Obituary of Eileen K Mangold

Eileen Mangold (née Koontz) passed away on April 24, 2017 with her loving family by her side. Eileen was born to Marcella (née Crist) and Edwin Koontz in Pittsburgh, PA on Christmas Eve, 1922. Her family built, and then operated the Koontz Funeral Home in Carrick, PA throughout her childhood. She remained in Pittsburgh until she moved to Wyckoff, NJ in 1968. She was married to the love of her life, Charles V. Mangold for 51 years. He predeceased her in 1995. Always wanting a large family, Eileen and Chuck raised eight children and left behind quite a legacy of 85 immediate family members. The Mangold home was a place filled with fun and energy. Anyone and everyone was always welcome. You could count on a good card game, "lively" conversation or a partially finished jigsaw puzzle ready to be enjoyed. Eileen was truly the matriarch of the family, and had limitless love for not only her children, but her 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She made each and every one of them feel like they were her "favorite." To know her was to love her. Her sense of humor and quick wit created a happy household. She had a heart filled with warm understanding and caring for all of her friends and family. Her relentless positive attitude added richness to all of our lives that we will forever cherish. She taught us to respect all people. Her deep faith was the foundation of her love and kindness. She had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and praying the Rosary all of her life. She was an active member of St. Elizabeth's for nearly 6 decades. She leaves behind her eight children: Charles Mangold III (Elsie), Ken Mangold (Linda), Linda O'Shea (Gerry), Ed Mangold (Liz), Mary Anne Barbi (Glenn), Christine Jones (Tom), Eileen McKie (Mike) and Carole Melendez. In addition, she treasured her numerous nieces and nephews, neighbors and close family friends. The viewing will be Sunday, April 30 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Monday, May 1 at St. Elizabeth RC Church,  700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ.
