Obituary of Vernon G. Oates

Oates, Vernon G. “Toots”, age 82, of Midland Park, passed away on Thursday, March 16th, 2017. Vernon was born in Englewood, grew up in Palisades Park and lived in Midland Park for 48 years. Vernon was a Credit Manager for Rexene Polymer in Paramus. She enjoyed travelling, camping, reading and the Jersey Shore. She is survived by her loving husband, John; her children Bob (Ginger) Oates of Port Washington, NY, Maureen (Joseph) Belsito of Midland Park, NJ, Patricia (Donald) Wittig of Milton, DE, and Barbara (Scott) Gleba of Midland Park, NJ; eleven grandchildren: Katie, Colleen, and Daniel Oates, Julianne and Kelly Belsito, Sean, Kerry and Kevin Wittig, Conor, Tara and Shannon Gleba, and two great-grandchildren - Finnegan and Teddy Oates and their mother, Marisa Kompar. Also surviving is her sister, Barbara Strube and her brother, Bill Cottrell. She was predeceased by her parents, Verner and Esther Cottrell, her grandson Richard Oates, and great-grandchildren Emily and Edward Wittig. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 18th from 7-9pm and Sunday, March 19th from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 20th at 10am at Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect St., Midland Park, NJ 07432. Interment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery, 25 Seminary Rd., Mahwah, NJ 07430.
