Obituary of Doris Lavery

Lavery, Doris age 77 of Wyckoff passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 5, 2010, surrounded by her friends and family. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, she grew up in Parkchester in New York. She graduated from St. Helena's School, Aquinas High School in the Bronx, NY and received a Bachelor of Science degree (cum laude) from Hunter College. She is survived by her husband, Daniel Lavery, of Wyckoff whom she married in 1954, and by her four sons, Dr. Daniel Lavery and his wife Diana of West Linn, Oregon, Dr. Brian Lavery and his wife Maryann of Lawrenceville, NJ, Dr. Kevin Lavery and his wife Katie of Jackson, Michigan and Michael Lavery of Oak Park, Illinois. She leaves eleven grandchildren including Dr. Daniel Lavery of San Diego, CA, Megan Lavery of Memphis, TN, Dr. Karen Lavery of Portland, OR, Kirsten Lavery of New Orleans, LA, Taylor Lavery of Lawrenceville, NJ, James Lavery of Portland, OR, Andrew Lavery of Jackson, MN, Evan Lavery of Portland, OR, Nathaniel Lavery of Jackson, MN, Nicholas Lavery of Lawrenceville, NJ and Alexander Lavery of Oak Park, IL. She taught in a number of Montessori Schools in the area and had been employed at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff before retirement. A devoted parishioner of St. Elizabeth's Church in Wyckoff, she had been a Eucharistic Minister and a Lector. She was the founding head of St. Elizabeth's Prayer Group and served as a Spiritual Director in the Group for many years. Active in St. Elizabeth's Social Justice Ministry, she served as its leader. She was also an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace and Justice in Englewood Cliffs. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth's R. C. Church on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers friends are asked to make a donation to Oasis, A Haven for Women and Children, 59 Mill St. Paterson, NJ 07501.
