Obituary of William Woods

Woods, William F., age 83 of Wyckoff, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010. Born in Mt. Vernon, NY, he was a resident of Williamsburg, VA, and HoHoKus, NJ, before moving to Wyckoff two years ago. William was a Navy veteran who served during WW II. Starting in the engineering and construction business with his father as Beers Steel Building Corp., he later acquired and was the President of the John F. Cooper Co. of Hackensack for many years. He was a member of the Ridgewood Country Club and The Hobbyists of Wyckoff. Surviving are his loving son, Michael and his wife Lois Linden Woods of Philadelphia, PA; his grandchildren, Tyler and Christopher Woods, of Philadelphia; and his sister Betty Knapp of Jupiter, FL. Also surviving locally are nieces Barbara Batten and Nancy Muldowney, and nephew Daniel Talbot; and William's devoted companion, Janice Read of Wyckoff. He was predeceased by his first wife of 49 years, Gertrude "Gaby" Woods, in 1998; and by his second wife, Eleanor Stein Woods, in 2007. Bill graduated from Ridgewood High School and with honors from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He was an avid golfer who played up and down the Eastern seaboard and on trips abroad. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 - 12 noon at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Service will follow on Saturday at 12 noon.
