Obituary of Maureen Kaulfers

KAULFERS, Maureen A. (nee Komenda) age 62 of Ramsey, died peacefully embraced by the love of her family on Monday, August 23, 2010. Born in Hackensack, Maureen grew up in South Hackensack before moving to Ramsey in 1971. In 1969 Maureen graduated from William Paterson University with a Teaching Degree in Elementary Education and in 1976 earned her Masters Degree in Education with her specialty in reading. In her early career she taught first grade in Lodi Public Schools and for the past 22 years she has taught special education in the Eric S. Smith Middle School in Ramsey. Maureen's passion and love was working with children and will surely be missed in Ramsey as she touched the lives of many young students through the years. Surviving are her loving husband of 41 years, Walter R. Kaulfers, her devoted daughters, Gwen and her husband Jim Pra of Oakland and Christine and her husband Jason Vonderhaar of Cincinnati, OH. Maureen also leaves her precious grandsons, Matthew Pra and Owen Vonderhaar, her sisters Jane Wright, Carol Komenda-Sprague and Nora Komenda and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her aunts, Ann Fredrickson and Eleanor Pick. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 27 at 10:30 AM from the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue, Ramsey. Interment will follow in the Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah. The Kaulfers family will receive friends on Thursday, 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff.
