Obituary of Concetta Polisse

POLISSE, Concetta, "Connie" age 98 of Midland Park, died peacefully on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the Veteran's Home in Paramus. Born in Lodi, she was a resident of Fair Lawn and Boca Raton, FL until moving to Midland Park six years ago. Early in her career, Connie was secretary for Bishop Fulton J. Sheehan during his many visits to Mount Carmel Guild, Paterson. Connie was an office manager for the family's business Mars Electric in Passaic. She helped to establish the library at Bergen Catholic High School where she later became a secretary to the principal. When she moved to Boca Raton, she volunteered and was a staff bookkeeper for Hospice by the Sea. She was a parishioner of Church of the Nativity, Midland Park. Connie was one of the last surviving widows of a World War I veteran and she had the honor and enjoyment of being the matriarch of a five-generation family. Connie is survived by her daughters Grace Byrne and husband Frank of Barnegat Light, Betty Sullivan and husband David of Midland Park and her son Peter Polisse and wife Patty of Engadine, MI, her six Byrne grandchildren: Frank, Paul, Tom and wife Karen, Michael and wife Elana, Cathy, Beth Ann and husband Jim, her seven Sullivan grandchildren: Marybeth and husband Craig, David and wife Helena, Stephen and wife Christine, Maryellen and husband Malachy, Peter and wife Mary, Maryclaire and husband James, Daniel, and Marysue's husband Chris. Also survived by 35 adoring great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Connie was predeceased by her husband Peter in 1982, her granddaughter Marysue Sullivan Gates in May, 2010, three brothers Rocco and Russell Caporaso and George Bruno and her sister Grace Daloisio. Friends may visit the family on Friday, July 9, 2010, 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, and on Saturday, July 10, 2010, 10:00 to 10:45 AM at Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect Street, Midland Park. The Mass following morning visitation at 11:00 AM will be a combined celebration of the lives of Concetta and her granddaughter Marysue Sullivan Gates. Private Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Susan Sullivan Gates Children's Education Fund, c/o Ryan & Ryan, P.O. Box 303 Cazenovia, NY 13035.
