Irvine Dyal

Obituary of Irvine Dyal

Born to the late Alexander and Enid Dyal on January 22, 1927, in St. Andrews, Barbados, our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend Irvine McCormick Dyal entered peacefully into God's care on June 28, 2010. In 1952 he immigrated to Brooklyn, New York where he met and married the late Mariette Lavine. Faith, family and education defined his life. He established and maintained a close relationship with St. Stephen and St. Martin's Episcopal Church of Brooklyn. There he served faithfully as President of the Vestry and Choir as well as Treasurer. Irvine received his undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College, a Masters of Science in Chemistry from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a Professional Diploma in Educational Administration and Supervision from St. John's University. Irvine's professional career spanned more than six decades. For the first four he worked as a Chemist for Jack Frost, Pepsi Cola and Fritchi, Dodge & Alcott. He dedicated the rest of his professional career to educating New York City school children at the George Gershwin Junior High School where he was employed as a science teacher. During his career he maintained his professional affiliations as a member of the American Chemical Society and the United Federation of Teachers. While faith, education and work formed the cornerstone of a productive and fruitful life, it was family and friends that shaped his life and defined him as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and hero to his grandchildren. These are the roles for which he will be most remembered and sorely missed. He leaves to cherish his memory five children: one devoted daughter Cherise Dyal Coleburn (husband Norman) of Franklin Lakes, NJ; and four loving sons : Vinnie Dyal (wife Shelette) of Temecula, CA; Hallam Dyal of Laurelton, NY; Anderson McKenzie of Westbury, NY and Raphael Lavine (wife Marcia) of Temecula, CA. He is also survived by his ten dear grandchildren: Randy, Jamal, Melinda, Chere, Hallam, Aishah, Christina, Cameron, Nicholas and Cayla, as well as his three great-grandchildren, and his brothers: Eric Dyal of Brooklyn, NY and Eustace Dyal of Barbados, West Indies. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
