Obituary of Virginia Sauser

Virginia Elizabeth (Reeves) Sauser, Ridgewood, NJ resident since 1946, died June 17, 2010 at home. Born May 24, 1913 in Dover, Ohio, she was the fourth child of Albert and Sophia (Swope) Reeves. Following her 1935 graduation from Flora Stone Mather women's college of Western Reserve University, she taught English and science in the secondary school at Brewster, Ohio. She was a member of West Side Presbyterian Church, Ridgewood, NJ, the College Club and Woman's Club of Ridgewood, Fyke Nature Association and the Chautauqua Woman's Club. She was a founding member of the Metropolitan Chapter of the International Old Lacers, promoted the May Pole and dancing for the Girl Scouts,and taught a class in spinning for the Willard School Bicentennial Celebration. As a reader of The Budget, Virginia wrote an essay to nominate the paper for a Pulitzer Public Service Award. Shortly there after, The Budget was brought to national attention by an article in the New York Times. She was preceded in death by: her husband of 59 years, Doran E. Sauser; brothers, Paul Reeves of Canton, OH and Tom Reeves of Loveland, CO; and sisters Clara Warm Geib of Dover/New Philadelphia, OH and Martha Mae Dorrance of Canfield, OH. She is survived by: two daughters and their husbands, Josephine and Preston Bassett of Wyckoff, NJ and Rebecca and Thomas Zwitter of Geneva, IL ; three grandchildren, Deborah Zwitter Annis of CO, Sarah Bassett of VT and Zachary Zwitter of CA; and one great grandchild, Gideon Bassett Duffy. She will be interred beside her husband at Union Hill Cemetery, Sugarcreek, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the building fund of the First United Church of Christ, Sugarcreek, OH 44681 or the building fund for West Side Presbyterian Church, 6 South Monroe Street, Ridgewood, NJ 07450.
