Obituary of Donald Suydam

SUYDAM, Donald died peacefully on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. Don was born in Huntington, NY on February 1, 1927. He was a resident of Wyckoff for the past 52 years. Don retired from teaching at the Bergen County Vocational School in Hackensack in 1989 after 21 years of service. He was a member of the Wyckoff Reformed Church, the Wyckoff Masonic Lodge #287 F&AM, the Fortitude Lodge #200 F&AM of Ramsey, the New Jersey Education Association, and the National Education Association. Don served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. Surviving is his beloved wife of 57 years, Alice M. "Dolly" Suydam, he also leaves several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. Don was pre-deceased by his brother Henry Suydam, Jr. in 1985. The Suydam family will receive guests on Sunday, June 20, 2010 from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Funeral services will follow at 4:30 PM. Interment will be in the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus on Monday at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Home of New Jersey, 902 Jacksonville Road, Burlington, NJ 08016.
