Obituary of David Burgess

BURGESS, David A. age 86, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Born in Bronx, NY, he lived in Allendale for the last 47 years. David was a graduate of Scarsdale High School, Scarsdale, NY and attended College of the City of NY for two years as an accounting major. He served his country for five years in the United States Army Signal Corps during the World War II and Korean War era. He retired in 1988 as a personnel manager with American Cyanamid Company, Wayne, NJ, where he was employed for 47 years. A former chairman of the Zoning Board of Adjustment for 13 years in the borough of Allendale, David was also president of Allendale Senior Housing from its inception until 2004. He was a former committee member of Boy Scout Troop 59, Allendale where he was also review representative of the Bergen County Boy Scouts and was associated with scouting in Bergen County for 25 years. David was a member of the Church of the Epiphany, Allendale where he served on the vestry. In addition to his love for his family, David enjoyed reading, gardening, photography and travel. Survived by his son, Edward H. and wife Anita of Cincinnati, OH and their son Alexander, and his son Richard A. of Allendale. David was predeceased by his beloved wife Marilyn, to whom he was married for 35 wonderful years, in 1985, and his dear sister Doris Hollrock in 1998. Friends may visit the family on Monday, 7-9 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. Funeral Service and Interment, Tuesday, 11:30 AM at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. Please meet at the funeral home, 10:15 AM for procession to the cemetery.
