Robert Flagg

Obituary of Robert Flagg

FLAGG, Robert "Bob" B., age 61, Allendale, NJ, died Friday, August 14, 2009, at home after a 1 ½ year battle with cancer. Born August 29, 1947, in Greenfield, MA, he was the son of Kathryn Flagg and the late C. Raymond Flagg. Bob grew up in Millers Falls, Massachusetts and graduated Bentley College in Boston, graduating in 1969 with a BS degree in accounting, summa cum laude. Bob continued his love of music beyond high school by performing with the Turners Falls Military Band, the Greenfield Military Band, and other musical groups during his college and young adulthood years. After college, Bob began working in Boston as a Certified Public Accountant with the KPMG Peat Marwick CPA Firm. However, Bob's career was interrupted while he spent 3 years in the US Army at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, where he received the Army Commendation Medal. Upon his discharge from the army, Bob rejoined KPMG Peat Marwick in Washington, DC, where he served on the audit staff and was eventually promoted to office controller. From 1978 to 1982, he temporarily left KPMG Peat Marwick to work on Capitol Hill as controller for the National Governors' Association. Bob moved to New Jersey in 1986 to join the newly created Internal Audit Department at KPMG Peat Marwick's Executive Office. As a major part of his work, he traveled extensively to review financial and accounting controls at more than 90 operating offices throughout the Firm. Bob retired in July 2000 as Associate Director of Internal Audit. On April 18, 1998, Bob married Donna. Their daughter, Ashley Elizabeth, 17, is the love of their lives. In addition to love of family, Bob cherished time spent at their shore property in Ocean City, NJ, where he served as president and treasurer of his condominium association. Bob's greatest joy was being able to retire early so he could be with Ashley and watch her grow into the fine young lady she has become. Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood, NJ, where he served as chairman of the Audit Committee prior to his illness. Besides his wife, daughter and mother, Bob is survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Bob's father, the late C. Raymond Flagg, predeceased him in 2000. New Jersey wake services will be held at the Vander Platt Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481(www.vpfh.com), on Sunday, August 16, 2009 from 11am to 2 pm.
