Obituary of John Powers

POWERS, John J., Sr., age 77, died peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2009. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he lived in Jersey City before moving to Midland Park 46 years ago. John was a pressman with Crown Cork and Seal of Ridgefield Park until retiring in 1993. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Marines. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5398, Midland Park. He was a parishioner of Church of Nativity, Midland Park where he served as an usher. John is survived by his beloved wife Joan to whom he was married for 49 loving years, his three dear children: Kathryn Healy and husband Kevin of Ringwood, Joan McDonagh and husband Stephen of Ringwood and John J. Powers, Jr. and wife Andrea of West Milford. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jessica and Aspen Healy, Padraig, Cecilia, Nora, and Rory McDonagh, and Brodie Powers, as well as two sisters: Martha Spiess and Margaret Fitzgerald. Funeral Mass, Tuesday, 10:00 AM at Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect Street, Midland Park. Interment, St. Luke's Cemetery, Ho Ho Kus.
